Shericka Williams on the come back trail

Shericka Williams,UTech Classics,

For the past two track and field seasons Olympian and World Championship Medalist Shericka Williams has been singing the words of the inspirational writer Robin Sharma “I have some wins. And been knocked down with defeats. Glimpsed views from the top of the mountain and walked through some of the darkest valleys. But through this entire ride called life, I refused to give up”.

Despite finishing at the back of the women’s 400 field at the Utech Classic 2015, in a time of 54.86 seconds, far outside of her personal best of 49.32 seconds, Williams still managed to keep a smile on her face.

Still lingering in the back of her mind are the challenges that have befallen her over the last two seasons, but they haven’t determined her destiny.

Speaking within Yardie Sports Reporters, Williams disclosed that she was not totally dissatisfied with her first race for the season.

“Well as for me it was just to see where my training is and has been going so far. My first race for the season and yea it was a little flat today. I did not go out as I should have, but with every race it is a learning experience, as I move forward through the season,” she explained.

Known internationally for her past success, Williams is of the belief that good things are in store for her this season. She believes without a doubt that her career is coming back to life.

“I am better able to manage training this season unlike the past two years and with God as my guide and God has my healer and provider, I know definitely I will make it through this season and make the World Championship team.”

Looking back at her sub-par showing in 2013 and 2014, she alluded to her numerous injuries that she had to overcome, to be where she is at this present moment. When asked if she has gotten over those injuries she was quoted as saying.

“Well I had a few injuries, most of them to my back. My back was a huge problem, but it has been coming on. Apart from that I think my body was giving out, I was like training for two days a week and then I felt like I was out,” she disclosed.

“I was so tired. I have been running fast from age nineteen and you know as you get older your body tends to break down. I am doing things a bit different this season, I am resting more, so I hope this can transpire into good things this season.”

Finding the drive and will to continue to train and stick to the sport she loves, Shericka was quick to point out that she has drawn inspiration from fellow quarter miler and country woman Novlene Williams-Mills who had her fair share of trials and challenges, but was on top of the world in 2014 season.

“Novlene and I have been friends from I made my first national team to the Helsinki World Championship in 2005. We have grown to bond with each other, and yes she has definitely been through a lot and I inspired her to come back out and fight.

“She came out fighting in the 2014 and was still keeping on top of the world. So that has really encouraged me to keep fighting.”

The Jamaica Invitational is amongst her list of scheduled meetings for the 2015 build up to trails, and Williams revealed that she has been running over 200m at the invitational for a few years now, which she may or may not continue this year, but she will definitely be at the meet.

Having tasted success at the highest level, Shericka is determined that once she makes the national team to Beijing she will be going all the way, in an effort to pick up an individual medal, as a well as helping her team to more international success.
