Caribbean Sports Journalists and JAAA Athlete of the Year, Diamond League Queen and 2014 Commonwealth Champion over 400 hurdles, Kaliese Spencer, kicked off her 2015 season over 800m at the 2015 UTech Classics.

Spencer who represented her High school creditably well over this event, ran a decent race to finish second behind race winner, Samantha James of University Technology in 2:07.46 seconds. Spencer was timed in 2:04.44seconds

Speaking with Yardie Sports, at the close of the race, Spencer expressed how happy she was to get it out of the way.

“To be honest I was just wanted to get this race down. It was my race for season, just wanted to go out there and compete”

Spencer also revealed that the decision to go over 800m was that of her coach, as they work together to get back to 100 percent and even a better form than that of the 2014 season.

“It was definitely my coach Stephen Francis’s, choice for me to race over 800m. Whatever he says I just go out there and get it done. As it relates to training, I am not 100 percent there yet. Am taking it step by step, hopefully by next month I be at that 100 percent.”

When quizzed about her about her goals and aspirations for 2015, Spencer said her aim is for Gold in her pet event at the World championship 2015 in Bejing.

“The focus for me this year is at the World Championships. I am aiming to win the Gold medal, hence I am training hard, in order to do my best”

As it relates to her season’s schedule, Spencer revealed that she will be turning out for the Jamaica International Invitational in May. She can also be seen on the circuit, with spots in Shanghai, China and Qatar.

“The fans can definitely see me at the Jamaica Invitational, as it relates to which event we haven’t yet decided. Then I move to either China or Qatar, as I build up to the National Trails and World Championship, this summer.”

Spencer also featured at the inaugural staging of IAAF World Relays in the Bahamas, where she helped the Jamaica’s 4x400m team to a silver medal in that event and could once again make the trip to the 2015 edition, but no definitive decisions have been made just yet.
