After piloting his Alma Mata, Wolmers Boys School to their 12th hold on the coveted Mortimer Geddes Trophy at the 100th staging of the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys’ and Girls Athletics Championships in 2010, Team captain Dwayne Extol departed to the United states to complete his territory studies and continue his track career.

First he journeyed to the University of Alabama, where he competed for two years, before a series of unfortunate events saw him parting ways to Texas Tech University in 2013.

The former IAAF World Youth Championship and CARIFTA games representative performed creditably well for both Universities, before journeying back to the ‘land of wood and water’, to be close to his family and to make a senior career out of his track and field talent.

Extol believes he was one of the many talented young athletes out of Jamaica who have fallen victim to the NCCA track system in the United States of America.

He is happy to be back at the place where it all started for him, and under the tutelage of his high school coach, Christopher Harley, who is looking to guide him to greater exploits in his career.

Extol is known to be a very versatile athlete and able to run over several different events, ranging from the 400m, 200m, and 400m hurdles which he did while competing for Wolmers Boys.

Now competing under the banner of the Wolmers Warriors Track Club, he made his debut for the 2015 track season at the UTech Classics, going over 400m, where he ran 48.17 seconds in section 1, to finish 17th overall.

He expressed overall satisfaction with the execution of his season’s debut.

“Well in terms of execution, I was pleased with race. My coach gave me specific instructions, in this my first 400m for the year. He told me to go out there in first 200, control the pace, control the race, and take it home in the last 200,”Extol told Yardie Sports reporters.

Happy to be back home and able to continue his career after a year’s break, he revealed that he and his coach is moving one step at a time, as they seek to make a major boost to his career after being quizzed about his expectations and goals for 2015.

“The reason I came back home was to be in an environment close to my family and where I can work with my former High school coach, to get a boost in my career. We are not in any rush; my coach doesn’t want me to push myself too much. He just wants me to get back fit, and get my strength back,” he explained.

Extol is still not ruling out competing at the National senior trails in just under two months.

“I’ll be turning out for the All Comers Meets coming up, as well as the National Senior trails, I will be running there. I am not sure in which one of my events, but I will keep running the 400m, for now.

He has personal-best times of 20.99 ( 200m), 47.46 in the 400m done in 2012 and 51.50 over 400m hurdles from 2011.

Extol who pursued amongst his tertiary studies, a degree in Electronic Media at Texas Tech was a commentator and race analyst for the RJR/ TVJ News Network, during the recent concluded Annual Boys and Girls Championships.

He disclosed that he is extremely happy to be able to pursue his passions and dreams, both as a media personnel; whilst pressing on with his track career
