The annual Gibson-McCook Relays takes place this Saturday at the National Stadium and hot on the lips of most track and field enthusiasts is whether or not 400m runner Christopher Taylor will be a part of the Calabar 4x400m team.

The 15 year old ran an amazing 46.87s at the Youngster Goldsmith Classics a few weeks ago to set tongues wagging about just how fast he can go at ‘Champs’ next month. The first year Class 2 athlete has firmly staked his claim to be a part of his school’s 4x400m team this Saturday in a race that is expected to set the stadium alight.

St. Jago has a highly vaunted 4x400m team with the likes of Ivan Henry, Nathon Allen and Martin Manley in their squad. They have been tipped to break the record at Champs by some pundits, who believe they already have the title wrapped up in that marquee event.

When Taylor dipped below 47s at the YG Classics he did so from lane 8, he showed his class and the fact that he is now ready to run with the “Big Boys”. The question is, will Coach Michael Clarke allow him to do so on this massive stage.

The fans in the stands will be buzzing with excitement by the time the finals for this event rolls around at about 9:30pm on Saturday and they will all be keen to see the young phenom run.
