The 2014 Commonwealth 100 metre Champion, Kemar Bailey-Cole kicked started his 2015 track and field season in the men’s 400 open at the 2015 Camperdown Classics inside the national Stadium on Saturday.

Cole stopped the clock in 48: 64 seconds, to win heat four of the event. The double Gold medalist from Scotland expressed his satisfaction with the race. “I am pretty pleased with the race. Just one little thing I went out there to PR, but it didn’t happen. But am still glad, because I came home injury free.”

Despite having to battle with a strong headwind on the backstretch, he reported that his execution was pretty much as he planned.

Moving forward for 2015, Bailey-Cole who has a personal best of 9.93 seconds in the 100 metre said that he is setting his sights on making the 100 metre finals in Beijing and the Racers athlete determined that once he gets there, he will do his best.

“I have to show up at trials, make it through the rounds and get on the team. After that the aim is definitely getting into the finals at “Worlds”.

Bailey-Cole secured his first senior individual gold medal in 2014 when he landed the 100 metre Commonwealth title in 10:00 seconds and hopes to live up to his personal expectation as well as those who regard him as the “next big thing for Jamaican Sprinting”. Chief among those being his Coach and Racers track club Head Coach Glenn Mills.

“I am not sure what my schedule will be leading up to trials, that is something that coach (Glenn Mills) will work out,” he said of the next few months before the Senior National Trials.

The Camperdown Classics is the second stop on the six meet Digicel Athletic Grand Prix. The third meet in the series, the Anthrick Corporate Area Development Meet, will take place on Thursday, also at the National Stadium starting at 9:00am.
