Javon Francis, formerly of Calabar, and now the poster-boy for the Michael Clarke led AKAN Track Club, sped to a decent time of 46: 29 in his 400m season opener at the Camperdown Classics on Saturday in Kingston Jamaica.

Running in the second heat, Francis ran a well timed race to come away with the victory ahead of Racers athlete Edino Steele, 47:12 seconds.

Know for his exploits as a junior athlete, Francis became a household name after his superb anchor leg in the 4x400m at the IAAF World championship 2013 where he piloted Jamaica to the silver medal.

“I am really happy with it, knowing that last year I had a little hamstring injury. So I am happy to come out here and perform at my best for my fans, who came out to watch and see” said Francis of his season opener.

Citing Camperdown classics as a good meet to open his season, Francis has already set his sights on his next event, which will be at the Gibson-McCook Relays. He disclosed that he will be running in the 4×400 relay for his club.

The athlete also revealed that in his first season as a professional athIete, he is eyeing great performances against top international and local athletes, as he ventures out on the European circuit with races in Germany and other places.

In his final year at ‘Champs’, Francis ran an excellent time of 45 seconds flat to erase Bolt’s mark of 45.35 seconds which was done in 2003, en route to securing the Class One Boys 400 metre title.

The Puma branded athlete, and 2014 People’s Choice Sportsman of the Year in Jamaica, is already well established and is looking to expound on his talent and fulfill his Track and field dream. Francis is looking to land himself amongst the greats to have represented Jamaica over the one-lap event such as Arthur Wint and former Calabar legend Herb McKinley.
