Former National Junior standout and Edwin Allen High School star athlete, Ristananna Tracey, sped to 54:63 seconds to win heat one of the women’s 400 metre open for clubs and institution at the Camperdown Classics at the National Stadium in Kingston Jamaica on Saturday.

Her winning time, despite being far off from her 51.95 personal best done back in 2011, was good enough to give her the top spot in the event ahead of club mates sprinter Kerron Stewart ( 55: 48) and Asianne Hall (55:97) who finished second and third respectively .

Tracey expressed satisfaction with the overall execution of the race. “ Well it was an OK run, even though it was not as I had planned. I think the wind impacted greatly on the race down the backstretch, but it was a very good race for me” said Tracey while speaking with Yardie Sports.

Tracey, now pursuing her senior career under the watchful eyes of the coaches at the Racers track club is also looking to recapture some of the glory days she enjoyed as a junior athlete, as she presses forward in her per event the 400 metre hurdles.

“One of my main objectives this season is to run a personal best time in that event,” she said.

Her personal best at the moment stands at 54.52 seconds done in 2013 inside the national stadium.

In 2011 Tracey ran 55.81 becoming the first schoolgirl to dip below 56 seconds and erased Melaine Walker’s 10-year-old 56.55 record. She also, in that same year, ran a National Junior Record (54.58 seconds) at the Jamaican Senior Trials to make the Jamaican team to the 13th IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea. At those championships she was fourth in her semi-final race in 55.55 seconds, running with a cast on her right hand to protect a broken wrist suffered in training leading up to the event.

Tracey brands herself as a versatile athlete, and will be looking to surpass her glory days as a junior and aims for greater accomplishment for the 2015 IAAF World Athletics Championship and beyond.
