“TAYLOR” MADE FOR GREATNESS

If the 48.71 seconds done over 400 meters at last year staging of Boys and Girls Champs, at 15 years old, left track and field fans in awe, then fast forward to 2015 and you will realize that young Calabar High School phenomenon, Christopher Taylor is made of a different mettle, that of which only a few local or global junior athletes can acquaint with.

Taylor gave an excellent display of class and talent at the Youngster Goldsmith Classics 2015, the first meet of the inaugural Digicel Grand Prix Athletic Championship, which was undoubtedly the performance of the season so far for high school athletes.

Running in his first year as a Class Two athlete, Taylor dominated the third heat, crossing the finish line in a superb 46.87s, the fastest time by any class two athlete and smashing the meet record of 47.24 seconds done last year by Kingston College’s Nathaniel Bann.

His time was also the record in the event on the day with second place going to Lenard Ledgister of St Elizabeth Technical in 49.63, and third place was Munro College’s Sheldon Smith of in 49.93.

Taylor expressed delight and satisfaction with his performance on the day.

“I feel good because I am the first 15-year-old to run that fast so early in the season. The plan was just to come out and run a good time but not that fast,” said Taylor.

Christopher Taylor is now making it a habit to destroy records, especially those held by his main rival at Kingston College, Nathaniel Bann. The strong man who is yet to face the starter for the this season.

Spectators now anticipate what will probably be the most epic clash at this year staging of the High School Championships. Whether it’s its in support of the green or purple, Champs is the place to be and the event to watch out for is the Class Two 400 finals for boys.

And like Confucius once said “The superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions”.

We eagerly await to see who will be the superior man at the end of the season.
