Sterling chilling in Jamaica

Liverpool is still celebrating a well deserved 1-0 over Sunderland in the early kick off in the English Premier League on Saturday morning, while star man Raheem Sterling is in Jamaica soaking up some of the Caribbean sun.

Raheem posted a picture online of himself wearing sunglasses and a floppy sunhat.

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers said he had “always planned” to give the 20-year-old – who has played more minutes than any other outfield player in the Premier League this season – a break.

Earlier in the season, Sterling was left out of the starting line-up for England’s European Championship qualifier against Estonia after complaining of fatigue on the eve of the match.

The manager added: “If we’re going to maximise what we can get out of him, then he needs that bit of recovery time. “A period of rest and the recuperation will do him the world of good.

“It has been a gruelling first half of the season for him with a lot of matches and a lot of work.”

He was also given permission to miss the 2-1 FA Cup third round victory against AFC Wimbledon on Monday.

Sterling is set to return to training next week ahead of the Premier League match against Aston Villa.

Liverpool are close to finalising a new contract for Raheem Sterling following the latest round of negotiations with the England winger’s representatives.

Sterling signed a five-year contract with Liverpool in 2012 and is expected to agree another five-year term, albeit on more lucrative terms given his continued progress under Brendan Rodgers. This move is to ward off Europe’s powerhouse clubs who have express an interest in him.
