Cavalier SC missed out on a chance to move into the top four of the Red Stripe Premiere League, after playing out a nil-all draw with Barbican FC on Monday night to close out match day 14 at the Stadium East Field.

Cavaliers remain in 5th place on 22 points and have won just once in their past six games. Barbican remains in 10th place and have gathered 4 points under their new coach. They are in 10th place on 14 points, 2 more than Humble Lion and Boys Town who occupy the relegation zone.

Cavalier created a few chances in the first half to break the deadlock. Claudious Blackburn was the main architect for his team, creating chances for his teammates. His excellent first touch was causing the Barbican defense many problems.

Blackburn’s reverse pass in the 16th minute was met by defender Al Nesbeth who’s shot was well over the cross bar.

The Barbican team remained disciplined behind the ball and despite the home team’s dominance in possession the visitors were able to keep them at arms-length for most of the half.

Cavalier’s best scoring opportunity came from the penalty spot; Girvon Brown was brought down in the box and Blackburn stepped up to take the penalty which was well saved by the Barbican custodian in the 29th minute.

On the stroke of half time, Brown found space in the 18 yard box but his fierce shot ricochet off the cross bar. The rebound fell to Blackburn who could not direct his header on target despite the goalkeeper being out of position.

Barbican was not a threat to the Cavalier team offensively as the home team was well organized in midfield and defense.

On the resumption, both teams started out slowly. There was no rhythm to the game and the few fans present were left silent. Barbican was getting some passes together but was unable to breach the Cavalier defense.

Dwayne Holmes skillfully got passed three players on the left and his cross was met by Blackburn from 9 yards out whose shot was well over the cross-bar in the 69th minute.

Jermaine Ricketts tried a long range effort that just elude the Barbican cross bar in the 90th minute.

Barbican was totally out played but with Cavaliers not clinical they were not made to pay for their mistakes.

Cavalier coach Rudolph Speed criticized his team for not finishing the chances.

“We have been creating chances and that’s been costing us all season. We need quality strikers. We have a very good defensive unit and we just need to stay more compose in front of goal”.

Barbican was rather pleased to leave with a point and the coach not losing either of his two matches since he has been in charge.
