Pro defending champion Fabian Campbell and Wesley Brown are in a head to head battle for top honours in the Alliance Buccaneer Memorial Golf Tournament after shooting two over par 74 on day one at the Caymanas Golf Club in St. Catherine.

Campbell shot 35 on the front nine and 39 on the back nine while Brown shot a steady 37 on both front and back. They both rued the fact that rain halted their game on the course after which it got heavy and soggy as well as filled with mosquitoes which made playing ‘nasty’ as they described it.

They said that it was a rough day but a good test of their overall skills. They were both looking forward to a better day tomorrow and to win the tournament.

Rochelle Prince leads the ladies section with a score of 80 or eight over par. She is followed by Tiana Cruz 81 and Kei Harris on 82. A new ladies champion will be declared tomorrow since defending champion Jodi Munn-Barrow did not take the course today.

The rain delay in the day’s activities means that all the golfers could not finish the course due to the early dark conditions. They will be back on the course at 6:30 tomorrow morning to finish the eighteen holes and then start day two at a later time.

The tournament features two different competitions running concurrently. One will be a two-day – 36-hole Jamaica Golf Association (JGA) qualifier while the other to be played on Sunday will be a modified Stableford competition in the form of a charity fund raiser for the Laws Street Trade Training Centre.

The format of play features: Saturday and Sunday – Medal Play HCP 1-12, Modified Stableford HCP 13-24, Professional, Men, Seniors, Super Seniors, Ladies and Juniors while on Sunday it will be Modified Stableford HCP 10-12, 13-24, 25-36, Men and Ladies. The Juniors will compete for the Vitoria Marley Trophy who died in an accident on a golf course. The Juniors will play in the U17, U15 and U13 age groups.
