BARCLAYS ATP WORLD FINALS LOOKS FOR AN EPIC CLIMAX

It will be Serbia versus Swiss when Novak Djokovic renew his rivalry with either Roger Federer in Sunday’s final.

This will be a repeat of the 2012 match up which saw the 17 time grand slam champion losing to Djokovic 7-6 (8-6) 7-5.

Djokovic has met Federer in three of the past four editions of the season finale, boasting a 2-1 lead in the FedEx ATP head to head meetings.

Djokovic clinched the ATP world one ranking on Friday according to the Emirates ATP Rankings. This is his third title in four years becoming just one of seven players to claim the top ranking three times.

The Serb player ousted Japanese’s sensation Kei Nishikori in three sets 6-1, 3-6, 6-0 to advance to Sunday’s finals at the O2 arena London.

He claimed a 14th consecutive match victory at the iconic arena and edging one step closer to becoming just the third player to three-peat at the season finale, and the first since Ivan Lendl achieved the feat also as an undefeated champion from 1985-87.

World # 2 player Roger Federer saved four match points before prevailing 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 ( 8-6) in a titanic battle against compatriot Stanislas Wawrinka.

After the match Roger Federer in a post-match interview said was quoted as saying ; “I got lucky,” said a clearly relieved Federer. “Stan played better from the baseline and that usually does the job on this court. But I kept fighting.

“It’s tough [on Stan] but I’m thrilled to be in another final in London.”

He will look to wrap up his seventh world ATP finals since his first in 2003.

Federer’s deft winner brought an end to the longest, and by far the most entertaining match of the week at two hours and 48 minutes, which kept the 17,000 spectators at the O2 Arena gripped throughout.

He hopes to recover in time to face his opponent in tomorrow final match.
