At the beginning of the schoolboy football season, a new competition, the LIME Super Cup, was added to the high school football landscape. The introduction of this new competition meant that for the first time ever, one school would have the opportunity to win four titles in one season.

The two semi-finalists in the second game of the double header at the National Stadium today, St. Elizabeth Technical High School (STETHS), the defending DaCosta Cup champions and Jamaica College (JC), the defending Manning Cup champions, are the only two schools in the country still in with a chance to claim an unprecedented four titles in one season. At the end of their game, the dream will be dead for one, while it will continue for the other.

Both schools met in the Olivier Shield final last year with JC running out comfortable winners on aggregate while STETHS complained of fatigue. No such claims or excuses will be accepted today. The stakes are getting higher as the teams get closer to the ultimate prize of $1M.

JC had to come from behind against Hydel to secure a 2-1 win at Sabina Park last week, and will know that today’s encounter will likely be an even tougher assignment than it was seven days ago. One of their twin towers in midfield, Sheldon McKoy, may miss today’s game through illness and his absence from the team, both in defence and in attack would be hard to replace. He has done a fine job in protecting the back four all season while remaining a constant threat in attack, especially at set pieces.

STETHS is the only rural area school to make it to the last four and will be looking to represent not just themselves but all the rural area teams. They too had a tough quarter-final, overcoming Camperdown High 2-1 courtesy of a goalkeeping error late in the game.

With more than just bragging rights at stake, neither team is expected to hold anything back as they both try to secure a spot in the showcase final. The game is scheduled to begin at 4:00pm.
