Red Stripe Premier League leaders Cavalier SC saw their eight game unbeaten run snapped on Monday night when they were beaten 2-1 by Tivoli Gardens at the Stadium East Field, in the latest edition of Red Stripe Football Monday’s.

Tivoli got off to a fast start against a team that has been playing with great confidence at the top of the standing. They had Cavalier on the back foot with fabulous passes in the first 15th minutes.

It was Cavalier however, who got the first goal of the game, somewhat against the run of play, in the 21st minute, when Rohan Reid gave the ball away to Chevone “Messi” Marsh and the former Calabar standout ran towards goal before calmly slotting past Edsel Scott to make it 1-0.

They goal lifted the home team who put pressure on Tivoli with their counter attacking plays.

Tivoli did have a chance in the 35th minute but Lennox Creary’s right footed effort was tipped over the cross bar by the Cavalier custodian Kadeem Davis.

Four minutes later, Tivoli were level courtesy of an own goal by Al Nesbeth. Tivoli took a quick free kick and with the ball in the box, Nesbeth turned it into his own net while attempting a clearance.

Lennox Creary who looked very dangerous from the start of the game scored a 25 yard screamer in stoppage time of the first half to give the West Kingston based team the lead, just before the referee signaled for half time. The strike must be a contender for goal of the season.

A slow start to the second half resulted in Cavalier coach Lamar Morgan making an attacking change in the 57th minute, Jermaine Ricketts was taken out and Javanie “Fast Car” Mitchell was brought in to add some steam to the Cavalier attack.

Cavalier had more possession of the ball but Rohan Reid protected the Tivoli defense well breaking up the Cavalier plays.

In the 78th minute goal keeper Kadeem Davis had to be taken out and replaced by Shomaayo Morgan after he sustained a head injury while collecting a Reid through ball. The goalkeeper was caught in the head by the left leg of his defender Nesbeth.

Cavalier did not give up and were running at the Tivoli defense that was outstanding on the night. The Tivoli defense dealt with numerous corners towards the end as Cavalier laid siege to their goal.

Tivoli played out nine minutes of stoppage time before the referee blew the final whistle.

Tivoli moved up to eleven points to 5th place, while Cavaliers remain at the top on 17 points.
