Kingston Jamaica: Committed to developing Jamaica’s number one sport, China Harbour Engineering Company is contributing $23 million to the Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) for the 2014-2015 National Premier League Football Competition. The official announcement was made on October 14th at the Football Federation’s Headquarters in New Kingston. To date the company has provided the PLCA with over $73 million in sponsorship.

“Monday Night football has been CHEC’s largest investment in sports in the Caribbean,” remarked Jennifer Armond, Regional Communications Manager. “It’s a game that brings people and communities together and we are happy to be a part of it. There’s nothing like munching on freshly roasted peanuts while cheering on your favorite team!” remarked an excited Armond.

With the title sponsor spending more in the Red Stripe Premier League, China Harbour followed suite with its strong financial backing bringing added excitement to the game as the company will be sponsoring Sunday’s live island-wide commentary on KLAS-ESPN.

Monday night’s televised football games will include the double header to be staged at the Stadium for National Heroes Day celebrated on October 20th. Having started matches at the stadium so early in the season, it is anticipated that the competition will gather great momentum within the coming weeks.

China Harbour will also be on the lookout for this season’s monthly CHEC Starballers as an exemplary player will be chosen each month for this prestigious award based on the following criteria: the number of games played in the season, positive impact on an individual’s team, disciplinary record, goals scored, and goal shut outs (goal keepers). Each CHEC Starballer is presented with a commemorative plaque and a cash prize of $30,000.

Past CHEC Starballlers including the legendary ‘Tuffy’ Anderson, Devon Haughton, August Town FC; Adoah Nickle and Ricardo Morris both of Portmore United FC; Omando McLeod, Humble Lion FC; Raymond Williamson, Rivoli United FC; Richard McCallum, Waterhouse FC and a number of other outstanding players.

In addition to the CHEC Starballer programme, the company also sponsors the CHEC Star Coach Award for each round. Last year’s season saw Coach Anthony Patrick of Waterhouse Football Club (FC) as the recipient of this prominent award for two consecutive rounds.

CHEC and other sponsors including Red Stripe, Jamaica Beverages, Just Bet, JUTC and several others are gearing up for an exciting season.

“The main purpose of our sponsorship today is to create and support a platform from which young people can exert their energy in a healthy and exciting manner, either as a player or a spectator—instead of being lured into the risky and sometimes desperate world of crime … we applaud those young men who have made a healthy choice to get out and practice with their teams to become stronger both in body and mind,” remarked Jennifer Armond during her address at Tuesday’s event.
