The Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) has confirmed that talks were held with engineering company China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC) about developing the pitches of the Premier League clubs. Infrastructural development is one such area that the PLCA thinks will help to enhance the quality of the Red Stripe Premier League (RSPL) in terms of the the level of football as well as it’s attractiveness.

At the Press Lauch to announce the 23M sponsorship by China Harbour on October 14th, Master of Ceremony Clyde Jureidini confirmed that China Harbour has been challenged by the JFF and the PLCA to help in the development of the pitches that are used to host games in Jamaica’s top flight. He also said that it is critical for the quality of the pitches to improve if the level of football is to improve.

At the Press Launch several sponsors gave their remarks on the RSPL and how they intend to continue supporting it as much as possible in order to assist in its growth. These include Red Stripe, Klas.ESPN, JUTC, Busta, JustBet and of course China Harbour.

Regional Communications Manager of China Harbour Jennifer Armond said that the Engineering Company was very happy and pleased to continue its association with the RSPL in such hard economic times and hopes that they will be able to continue for years to come. However when asked if the company would be assisting with infrastructural development, she was cautious with her response.

She said, ‘We have looked at it but we are currently waiting for a response from our head office. There are many projects that we are looking at but the head office has to confirm the projects we will be undertaking before I can confirm. As soon as there is word from the head office then they (JFF and PLCA) will be informed.’

General Manager of the PLCA Andrew Price also confirmed that discussions were held with the sponsors in an effort to improve the RSPL. He said, ‘I do not see Red Stripe, JustBet, JUTC, Busta and Klas.ESPN as sponsors. We (the PLCA) see them as partners as we have sat down and discuss how we can improve the RSPL and make it more attractive.’

Such discussions he said has lead to Monday Night Football as well as double headers to make it more exciting for the fans. He also said that these ventures have been successful thus far and hopes that more will be done to get patrons to support the RSPL in order for growth to occur.

Price also issued a cry for the public to come out and support the Heroes Day double header at the National Stadium. To make it easy for fans on such day, the JUTC will be providing transportation to and from the National Stadium between Half Way Tree, Cross Roads and Portmore. The General Manager says he hopes the patrons will turn out in their numbers and make use of the plans put in place to make the day a huge success for all.
