Sporting Central Academy hitman Francois Swaby, helped his team to pole position on day one of the new Red Stripe Premier League season, when his brace guided the hosts to a comfortable 3-0 win over former champions Boys Town yesterday.

The game was played at the Juici Patties Park in Clarendon and Sporting Central took full advantage of the home support to get their season off to a flier. Swaby fired home the only goal of the first half with his right foot, in the 20th minute and doubled his team’s lead with his left foot, just seven minutes after the restart. Boys Town were an already beaten team when Andre Jones made it 3-0 in the final minute of the game.

Swaby who top scored for his team with 14 goals last season, does not want to disclose his target for this season but did say, “My aim is definitely the golden boot, I want to finish the league’s top scorer this season. Last season I finished third but this year I want to be on top of the pile.

“Team preparation and hard work is what got us off to this good start and we need to maintain it,” he said.
When quizzed about the national team the 25 year old said, “indeed, that is every player’s dream…to play for the national team.”

Swaby received the China Harbour “Player of the Month” award for November last season and with this fast start has certainly put himself in contention for a similar award early in this season.
