A mouth watering contest looms between Zone A leaders and defending champions Barbican FC (who lead on goal difference) and Waterhouse FC in the Sherwin Williams Women’s Football League. Both teams have won their three games played so far and will be looking to lay down a serious marker as they hunt a spot in the midseason finals.

Barbican has already scored a whopping 14 goals, but has conceded 2 compared to Waterhouse who has scored nine so far while keeping three clean sheets. The return of Juneil Watkins from college overseas has boosted the forward line of the Drewsland based team and she hit a brace when her team made light work of the tough Arnett Gardens team on match day 4, coming away easy 3-0 winners.

Members of the Reggae Girlz team who were playing in the CFU World Cup playoffs should be available for the game today and this may have a big impact on both teams. Should they play, Barbican would welcome back the likes of Yolanda Hamilton and Trudian Mills while Waterhouse would have the services of Keniesha Reid and Christina Murray (subject to the latter’s international clearance).

The return of these players would make for an early season blockbuster. The last time these two teams met was in the semi-finals of the competition last season with Barbican prevailing on the way to their sixth straight hold on the title. The game will be played at the Duhaney Park Playfield.

Portmore Strikers and Arnett Gardens conceded three goals in their last respective games while dropping all three points. Both teams will be looking to rebound when they face-off at the Racing Oval. Portmore has not had a good time of it since their return to the league following a one year absence. They have lost three of their four games so far with their only win coming at home against Trelawny Women’s FC. Early front runners, Arnett Gardens, has slipped to third following back to back losses and will be looking to stem the tide today and prevent the top two from getting away from them.

Olympic Gardens has amassed four points from their three games so far and will be looking to push up the tables at the expense of Trelawny Women who will be travelling to Cling Cling Oval. Trelawny lost their first two games by a similar 1-0 scoreline before rebounding with a 4-2 win over newcomers Rangers FC before “resting” on match day 4. They will be hoping that the time spent preparing for the Olympic game will be enough to help secure three important points.

Rangers FC will rest today. All games begin at 3:30pm.
