GC Foster College built on their first win of the season in the Sherwin Williams Women’s Football league when they hammered newcomers St. James Women’s Football Academy 6-0 at Jarrett Park on Wednesday. Despite having to travel, last season’s beaten finalist put on a ruthless display to bring the “newbies” crashing back down to earth.

St. James had enjoyed a dream start to the competition, winning their first game 1-0 over St. Thomas Strikers on the opening day but there was no such luck on match day 2, as they were put to the sword by the Kurt Brooks coached team.

A Kerall Whyte hat-trick in the 5th, 41st and 68th minutes was supported by a Chevin Blair brace in the 35th and 47th minutes. Jodeen Whyte was the other scorer for GC Foster, the only team with six points in the group so far.
Over at Collie Smith Drive, the other newcomers in the zone, Boys Town Wildcats also found the going tough when they were tagged 3-0 by former champions Harbour View. Shavel Martin gave her team the lead in the 7th minute when she poked the ball past after defender Tashauna Malcolm failed to clear her lines.

The Wildcats fought bravely to try and get back into the contest and managed to create a few half chances but they were unable to find the back of the net as the half ended 1-0.

The home team continued to create chances in the second half but were made to pay for the faulty shooting when Harbour View substitute Georgette Whyte outpaced the defence before rifling a shot into the roof of the net.

Martin put some gloss on the Harbour View performance when she got a second in the 2nd minute of stoppage time.

At the UWI Mona Bowl, the University of the West Indies Women’s team clipped visitors St. Thomas Strikers 1-0 courtesy of a 6th minute Chris-Ann Chambers strike. UWI were recovering from a 6-1 hammering on day one and will be happy to have kick-started their season. UWI joins, Harbour View, Los Perfectos and St. James Women’s FC on 3 points in the group. Real Morant and Boys Town are yet to gain a point.
