“It is time to get some beating at the collegiate level,” that’s the words of the young Jamaican and Wolmerian High Jump star, Christoff Bryan who hopes to continue soaring to new heights on the US collegiate circuit at Kansas State University.
Bryan who have spent six years at Wolmers Boys School have decided to bypass his final year at the school, to continue his career and pursue his academic dreams. He currently ranks as the 2nd best amongst Jamaica’s junior, male high jumpers, with a personal best mark of 2.24 meters achieved at the recently concluded World Junior Championships. His mark places him behind his inspiration and former Jamaican high jump standard bearer Germaine Mason, who holds the national junior and senior records at 2.28m and 2.34m respectively.
He has flown the Wolmers flag high during the six years at the institution, with exceptional representation at the annual Boys and Girls Championship. He was a part of the winning squad that took the top spot at the 100th staging of the Boys event in 2010.
Bryan has had international success in his event, where he finished third and fourth at the IAAF World Youth Championship 2013 and the World Junior championship 2014 respectively. The athletewho stands above six feet, has also won several CAC and Carifta Games titles
The 2013, Howard Aris Scholarship Award recipient and aspiring physiotherapist says he hope to continue to improve during his collegiate career, leading into his professional one.
He hopes to emulate and surpass the performances of the many top Jamaicans student athletes such as; long jumper Francine Simpson, steeplechaser Korine Hinds, sprinter Nickesha Anderson and the versatile young Caribbean talent Akela Jones out of Barbados, who have plied their trades at the prestigious Kansas State University.
