SIMONE FACEY TO BE INDUCTED IN TEXAS A&M HALL OF FAME

The 37th Annual Burgess Banquet scheduled for Friday, October 31st at the Texas A&M University will see Jamaican and former Vere Technical star athlete Simone Facey, inducted into the Hall of Fame. The former lady Cougar standout athlete is the only track and field athlete listed among Aggie greats, class of 2014 awardees, with awards ranging from Hall of Honor, Lettermen’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and Hall of Fame inductees.

In 2013 Facey, was inducted in the Penns Relay Wall of Fame, as a member of the outstanding Vere Technical Sprint quartet of Indira Spence, Maris Wisdom, Sharneter Stewart, who broke the Penns Relay high school sprint relay for females in 2004.

While at Vere Technical she was won several sprint titles, fondly remembered by many at the 2001 edition of the Annual Boys and Girls championship , where she ran an impressive 22.71 seconds to upset World Junior 200m silver medalist and favourite Anneisha McLaughlin of Holmwood (23.48) and in the process broke her former teammate Veronica Campbell’s old mark of 22.92 set in 2001.

She copped the sprint double at that staging of the championship. Her hardwork as a junior has seen her receiving honours such as 2002 World Junior Championships 100m silver medalist and well as several Carifta Games, CAC and Pan American Junior gold medals for Jamaica

In 2006 she joined Texas A&M family from Barton County College and went on to represent the institution with great pride and joy. While wearing the colours of the Lady Cougars she had a lot of outstanding seasons. Chief amongst those was her big break out year in 2007 for that university where she helped her team to their first Big 12 Championship title copping the sprint double, and was a part of the sprint relay team that won in a record time at the Big 12 championship meet. Her team later went on to capture the Big 12 Indoor conference title with Facey again being a major contributor to the title.

She continued that impressive form into 2008, where she broke both the female sprint records at Texas A&M with times of 10.95 and 22.25 which is her current personal best times, and went on to capture the NCAA D1 Championship 200m title for her team in that same year.

The twenty nine year old athlete has so far represented Jamaica and won medals at 2007 & 2009 world championship.
