The most anticipated sporting event in the world is some fourteen (14) days way, as The Fifa World Cup is set to kick off on June 12, in Brazil. The world cup will host 32 teams from over seven (7) different continents, in groups of four (4) with eight (8) groups and only two(2) advancing from each to the knock phase.

The groups are broken up in alphabetical order from A-H and there are some intriguing match ups, Group A will see the likes of five time champions and host nation Brazil, CONCACAF giants Mexico, the ever challenging Africans in Cameroon and Europeans Croatia.

It is expected that with being the host and with all the skills and attacking force up front Brazil should advance from the group on top, which leaves the second place spot all to fight for. In a group like this, second place should be a easy take for the Mexicans. However, after such a poor qualification campaign and having to take the long route via the play off against Oceanic runners up, the Mexicans are not looking so good for second place.

The Croatians with star players like Real Madrid’s Lucka Modrick, Everton’s Nikicia Jelavic and also Sevilla’s Ivan Rakitic should bring some level of expericens to thier team and make a real push for second sopt.

Cameroon’s fate rests on the shoulders of one man and he is their captain, Samuel Eto’o. He will have to lead his team out of the group and bank on the help of (Barcelon’s) midfilder Alex Song and Tottneham’s defender of Benoit Assou-Ekotto for support.

The battle will be on for second place in the group and this is the World Cup where anything can happen.
