WICB/WIPA TO HOST ANNUAL PLAYER AWARDS CEREMONY

The West Indies Cricket Board, Inc. (WICB) and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) will be hosting their Annual Player Awards Ceremony on Thursday June 5th 2014 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel beginning at 6:30 p.m. The awards ceremony in its 11th staging is scheduled to take place during the Jamaica leg of the New Zealand Tour of the Caribbean.

 

Boasting twelve (12) categories, the 2014 awards will be presented to those cricketers who have distinguished themselves regionally and internationally for the calendar year 2013.  Among the awards to be presented are the coveted Male and Female West Indies Cricketer of the year, the West Indies One Day International Cricketer of the year, West Indies Test Match Cricketer of the year and the West Indies T20 Cricketer of the year. Two special awards will also be presented at this year’s ceremony, both will be Lifetime Achievement Awards presented separately by each organization. Additionally special focus will be placed on star cricketer Christopher Gayle’s 100th test which will be played during the New Zealand tour.

 

The 2013 West Indies Male and Female Cricketer of the year awards went to Marlon Samuels and Stafanie Taylor respectively. Samuels also copped the the West Indies One Day International Cricketer of the year for 2013, while Shiv Chanderpaul took home the Test Cricketer of the Year Award, and Sunil Narine copped the West Indies T20 Cricketer of the Year and First Class ODI Cricketer of the Year Awards.

 

The Most Honorable Percival J Patterson, former Prime Minister of Jamaica will be the guest speaker at the Awards Ceremony, which will also be attended by the members of the New Zealand team on tour.

The awards ceremony being hosted for the second time jointly, was originally an initiative of the WIPA. The WICB being totally committed to the promotion and development of the game of cricket joined forces with WIPA in 2013 in honoring the players.
