West Indies Cricket Board President Dave Cameron stressed the need for a continued partnership between the Board and the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) as both organizations do their best to restore West Indies cricket to its former glory.

“The West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is once again proud to be partners with the West Indies Players Association (WIPA) for the second annual awards. We aim for partnership at all levels as we are clear on our mandate to place the greatest emphasis on the players who we think are our greatest assets,” Cameron said on Tuesday at the launch of the Annual WICB/WIPA Awards.

“The partnership is intended to go beyond the awards as there are several other initiatives which have started and we plan to work together for the overall benefit of our cricket.”

Cameron is hopeful that there will be improvements in the performances and ultimately rankings of the regions teams.

“West Indies cricket has had a fair year and the awards will highlight some of the top performances from the men, women and young men who participated in the last year. There is a full schedule of cricket in all formats for the next year and we are hoping with some of the adjustments we have made structurally, our rankings will improve over time,” he said.

The West Indies has been hovering near the bottom of the Test rankings for a long time now and the once dominant cricket team must focus n climbing the tables this year, beginning with the Test Series against New Zealand next month.
