Kingston, Jamaica: It was announced Friday that House of Marley, maker of high-quality consumer electronics inspired by the life and music of Bob Marley, has initiated a program to support the Jamaica Reggae Girlz’ current fundraising campaign being hosted on the crowd-funding site GoFundMe. The Reggae Girlz are Jamaica’s national senior women’s soccer team.

When individual donors go to www.gofundme.com/jamaicawomensfootball and mention House of Marley in the comments section of their donation the company will match the amount until a cap of US$5,000.00 is reached. Cedella Marley expressed her appreciation and noted that giving back is a core element of the company’s mission. “The House of Marley is a living brand. They are about equality, freedom, and charity. It’s about giving back and doing the right thing. Joining this Campaign for our Jamaica Reggae Girlz shows they also have integrity and I thank them for the support.”

The Reggae Girlz will be participating in the Inaugural Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Women’s Caribbean Cup which will begin with first Round qualifications between May and June. Jamaica will compete in a series of matches June 18 through 22 in Dominican Republic. This tournament will serve as the official qualification tournament in the Caribbean Zone for both the CONCACAF Women’s Gold Cup and the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

Jamaica, along with host Dominica Republic, St. Lucia, and Anguilla have been placed in Group 5 of the First Round. The Final Round will be held in Trinidad and Tobago, August 17-27.

Recently Cedella Marley, CEO of the Marley group of companies, was named global ambassador for the Jamaica Women’s Football program. Her duties include bringing awareness to the program and promoting fundraising initiatives. The funds being raised have a direct impact on the team’s chances for success because it is needed to cover costs of training and travel to the qualification rounds for world cup.
