Jamaican international and GC Foster student, Raymond Brown broke his personal best record in only his second meet of the 2014 season at the UWI Invitational Track and Field Meet at the UWI Bowl yesterday.

Trailing another national representative, Odane Richards who represents MVP, for most of the contest, Brown was able to get it right late in the competition to pull of the win. He set a new personal best of 20.17m to finish ahead of Richards 19.97M and Fedrick Dacres of the UWI 18.47m.

Speaking with Yardie Sports shortly after the win a pleased Brown credited his coach and the crowd for setting a new mark on the day.

“I felt a bit shaky at the start but then I got my rhythm and started getting in some good throws,” Brown explained.

“My technique has been coming on real well in training so I felt I could get near 20m today but I never expected to go so far so fast. The help of the crowd was great, it was electrifying and that helped me put a good sequence together.”

Brown, who opened his season with 19.33m is unsure of his participation at the Intercollegiate championships this year but his next major assignment will be at the Jamaica International Invitational in early May.

“The Jamaica Invitational is my next major event and the major target this year is the Commonwealth Games in the summer. Things are shaping up real well right now and coach and I are just working on getting the details right,” he concluded.

Dacres, the former Calabar High standout won the discus with a throw of 62.05m beating Oshane Harris 51.45m into second place
