West Indies Women hoping to making it third time lucky

The last two international tournaments that the West Indies Women have participated in, they have been to the semi-finals and final respectively. With the Twenty/20 World Cup scheduled to be held in the Asian Country of Bangladesh, Merissa Aguilleira and her charges will hope it is third time lucky.

If one were to listen to Aguilleira’s remarks leading up to the competition, it is easy to understand why she has exuded such confidence in her charges.

After all, there remains part of the squad: Stafanie Taylor, Shemaine Campbelle, Anisa Mohammed, the ever improving Natasha Mclean and Shanel Daley. These players with the exception of Mclean are seasoned performers and know what is required to lift a major tournament.

Just as their male counterparts, there is a balance in the team which few countries internationally, can only dream of having. Unlike a year ago, the above mentioned players were hitting form as the World Cup approached. Fast forward twelve months and it is the complete opposite.

Only a few weeks ago the West Indies competed in a series in New Zealand where they were outclassed and battered without winning a match. Subsequently going down 4-0 with one abandoned due to rain.

If one comparison can be made, it is that twelve months ago, the Windies played South Africa in a warm-up before bowing into competition and twelve months later the same opposition was included in the itinerary for the Caribbean women. On both occasions, they came out on top.

The Jury remains out as to whether or not the Caribbean ladies can follow in Sammy’s and company footsteps and bring glory to the Caribbean?
