The President of Netball Jamaica Marva Bernard, and members of the board of directors, held an emergency meeting on Monday March 3rd, in an attempt to resolve certain issues with the new contract for Head Coach Oberon Pitterson-Nattie.

At the end of a very lengthy meeting, a decision was taken that Head Coach Pitterson-Nattie and Netball Jamaica would part company.

President Bernard expressed disappointment that the issues could not have been resolved to the satisfaction of both parties and stated further that at this crucial juncture (Commonwealth Games are only four (4) months away) she was saddened that a mutually satisfactory resolution was not possible.

Mrs. Pitterson-Nattie has been head coach for the Sunshine Girls since 2011 when she replaced former national player Connie Francis.

Prior to this impasse the relationship between Coach Pitterson-Nattie and Netball Jamaica was solid with expectations high that major improvements were targeted for the Sunshine Girls’ next international encounter.

The Team will now be under the guidance of Assistant Coach Minneth Reynolds and Strength and Conditioning Coach Roy Thomas.

It is clear that Netball Jamaica have things under control, as when contacted by Yardie Sports, Netball Jamaica President Marva Bernard said, “the focus is on getting the team prepared for the Commonwealth Games and how we are going to win games against the top teams.

“We must start beating the top teams consistently if we are going to improve our medal position at the end of these (Commonwealth) games. The first order of business is our fitness levels as the team has not trained in five weeks,” she pointed out.
