Boys Town will take a comfortable 3-1 lead into their second leg of the third round of the KSAFA/Yellow Pages Jackie Bell Knock Out competition next week at Collie Smith Drive.

In a dominant first half display, the Red Brigade seized control of the game from the first whistle and should have taken the lead from as early as the 6th minute when both Marvin Stewart and Shane Edwards missed easy chances to score within seconds of each other.

However, only three minutes later Andre Dawson finished off a sweeping move by Boys Town when he got on the end of a right sided cross from Garfield Gillespie to fire home from close range.

Stewart was guilty of another miss in the 15th minute when Real Mona keeper Kenrie Picnite pulled off a stunning save at point blank range to deny the visitors from doubling their advantage.

Real Mona’s first chance of the game came in the 18th minute but Khalil Johnson shot high over the crossbar when he should have at least hit the target.

Real Mona were having a hard time keeping up with the Boys Town team as the premier league outfit  were playing a slick passing game and troubling their opponents defence with accurate diagonal passes.

The unlucky Stewart would come close again in the first half, when he watched as his shot cannon off the crossbar and outside for a goal kick.

Boys Town would double their advantage before the break when Edwards shrugged off his marker and ran onto a ball over the top before powering his shot pass the hapless Picnite in goal.

The home team had another close effort on target when skipper Jordan Moses hooked effort went just over the crossbar two minutes before the break.

The two goal lead at half time was no more than the Andrew Pryce coached team deserved.

As often happens in football matches, Boys Town came out flat in the second half and the home team took full advantage of it. As the visitors backed off and gave them space to play, the midfield duo of Moses and Omar Teape brought their team back into the game.

In the 57th minute Johnson shot agonizingly wide and this served to lift the Real Mona team who felt they could get something out of the game.

With Boys Town struggling to find back their rhythm Real Mona made a couple of substitutions and the fresh legs gave the team impetus. One of those substitutes, Mikhail Hewitt provided a good cross which was headed in by a Boys Town defender to make it 2-1.

Moments later Hewitt curled a free kick just over the cross bar as the home team smelled blood.

A perfect opportunity was presented to the home team when they were awarded a penalty with just 8 minutes left on the clock. Moses took responsibility and shot straight down the middle but goalkeeper Kirk Porter stood his ground to block the effort  and maintain his team one goal advantage.

Real Mona were brutally made to pay for that miss as Boys Town scored on their very next attack courtesy of Asrick Samuels to take a comfortable two goal advantage back to Collie Smith Drive.

Boys  Town coach, Andrew Pryce, was happy enough with his team’s performance saying, “We got the job done. It was easy enough for us in the first half and we got two goals.

“We got complacent in the second half but we got the third goal which gives us a two goal cushion going into the return leg at Collie Smith Drive. We will just have to finish off the job next week,” he concluded.
