Liverpool will host crisis club Cardiff City in the lunch time kick off at Anfield on Saturday knowing that a win will propel them to the top of the Barclays Premier League if only for a short period of time.

It has been a long time since the Mersyside has been this high up the tables, thanks in no small part to the efforts of the main striker Luis Suarez. The forward returned from a ban which began last season and carried over into the start of this season, to set the goal scoring charts alight.

The Uruguayan who, led the team in the absence of legendary captain Steven Gerrard against Tottenham Hotspurs on Sunday, scored the first and last goals in a 5-0 rout which sealed the fate of Andre Villas-Boas. The Spaniard was promptly sacked by Daniel Levy on Monday.

Suarez has been averaging more than 2.5 goals per match in his last three premier league games and it is hard to see the Cardiff City defenders stopping him from scoring.

The Welch club, who had a fairly good start to the season, beating the likes of Manchester City at home early on, having been struggling of late and are just four points above the drop zone.

The public fallout between their manager Malky Mackay and owner Vincent Tan has led to rumors that the manager has been told to resign or face being sacked.

It will take a huge effort on the part of the players to come away from Anfield with even a point against the red hot ‘Reds’.
