Savanna-la-mar Primary wins JaVA Deran Lee Primary & Prep Schools Volleyball Championship for Westmoreland

Savanna-la-mar Primary School took a major step in defending their National JaVA Primary & Prep Schools’ Volleyball Championship title by winning the League section in the JaVA Deran Lee Primary & Prep Schools Volleyball Championship for Westmoreland schools on Friday, November 29, 2013 at Loving Care Christian Academy, Farm Pen Road, Savanna-la-mar.

Savanna-la-mar Primary School took a major step in defending their National JaVA Primary & Prep Schools’ Volleyball Championship title by winning the League section in the JaVA Deran Lee Primary & Prep Schools Volleyball Championship for Westmoreland schools on Friday, November 29, 2013 at Loving Care Christian Academy, Farm Pen Road, Savanna-la-mar.

 

 Sav got by Loving Care, Chantilly Primary & Infant and New Road All Age in the Group B quarterfinal action before dispatching last year’s parish champs Holly Hill Primary & Infant 15-10, 15-11 in the semis to set up a final clash with Rally winners Unity Primary who made a clean sweep of Holly Hill, Little London Primary and Kings Primary in Group A, then claimed a hard fought 15-9, 12-15, 11-4 semifinal victory over Loving Care.

 

Sav took the title 15-13, 15-9 while Holly Hill secured the bronze medal 15-13, 15-5 over Loving Care.

 

Rockila Williams and Ashley Plummer of Sav were voted the President’s Madd Skill Award and MVP respectively.

 

“Due to fourteen schools participating in Westmoreland JaVA has decided to admit four at the National Finals in Kingston on December 11 (2013),” informed Major Warrenton Dixon, JaVA Schools Development Manager who witnessed the final and assisted in presenting prizes that included a set of 13 jerseys for the top two teams and their coach.

 

“Sponsor Deran Lee has committed to providing the top four teams with jerseys this year so Holly Hill and Loving Care will get theirs in time for National Finals,” noted Haile Mika’el, JaVA Western Region Coordinator, adding, “The jerseys are a five year investment as Mr. Lee plans to have all teams in the championship outfitted in due course.”

 

Medals and trophies were also presented for the Rally that was won by Unity “A”, with Holly Hill “B” second and New Road third. Unity’s Jermaine Gardener was MVP and Sojay McHayle of Holly Hill the President’s Madd Skills Awardee.
