Rudolph Speid takes over JAVA top job

Former Kingston and St. Andrew Football Association (KSAFA) top man and Premier League outfit Cavalier, head coach, Rudolph Speid, was elected unopposed as president of the Jamaica Amatuer Volleyball Association ( JAVA) at its annual general meeting held on Monday night at the Jamaica Olympic Association head quarters, Kingston.

Speid who previously served KSAFA for six years before he was was defeated in August by Ambassador Stewart Stephenson in another bid to extend his reins at the helm of that organization.

Speid speaking on RJR on Tuesday revealed that he was encouraged by the two former top men at the association, in Major Warrington Dixon and Superintendent Steve Brown to lend his expertise and knowledge in the area of management with the aim of advancing the development of volley ball in the country.

The former KSAFA president made it clear that there is a lot of work to be done in the association, which continues to struggle in its quest for survival locally.

Former president Steve Brown, who took over mantle last year from Major Dixon, tendered a sudden resignation in September 2014, almost midway his first term in office, citing personal reasons for such a decision. Under his reins the national female team gave a very good effort at the World Championship qualifier in Canada earlier this year.

The country was also able to send youth teams to youth Olympics in China in beach volley ball.

Both past presidents have extended the blessings and support to the newly elected president has he seek to championed volley ball’s growth and development in Jamaica.
