Titans defeat the Warriors

Titans of Aston Preston secured the last semifinal spot in this year Sagicor UWI Guild Champions  League on Friday with a 2-1 victory over the Warriors from the Rex Nettleford Hall.

Titans of Aston Preston secured the last semifinal spot in this year Sagicor UWI Guild Champions  League on Friday with a 2-1 victory over the Warriors from the Rex Nettleford Hall.

 

After defeating last year beaten finalists,  Stallions Republic of Taylor hall in the first round, much was expected of the Warriors coming into this encounter.  They started the game, exciting the crowd with some flair and trickery that had their supporters on their feet.

 

 Their enterprising inter-play however didn’t produce much and it was the men form Preston that took the lead in the 39th minute with a thunderous strike from Jamiel Mills.

 

 The goal didn’t knock the wind out of the Warriors, but the Titans grew more in confidence as the game went on. The half ended 1- 0 in favor of the Titans.

 

 Despite being 1-0 down the Warriors came out playing with purpose, using their fancy foot works to entertain their loyal fans. Titans however once more produced the most important display by increasing their lead with a smartly taken free kick by Alex Thomas in the 49th minute.

 

 With a comfortable 2-0 lead the Titans played relaxed football, inviting the Warriors to come at them. The Warriors fought hard to restore parity and when Kwame Mathias scored a brilliantly taken free kick in the 85th minute, a glimmer of hope appeared for Warriors, the last 5 minutes of the game produced a few nervous moments for the Titans.

 

It was however little too late as the Titans held on for much deserved 2-1 win to advance to their first ever champion league semi-final. 

 

Titans will now face a much stiffer challenge from another first time semifinalist in Block C Roosters of Taylor Hall in what is being described as the semi- final of the underdogs on Sunday.
