Incumbent Ms. Audrey Thompson was unanimously returned as President of the Westmoreland Netball Association (WNA) following the election of officers to the Executive Committee on Thursday, November 21, 2013 at Manning’s School, Savanna-la-mar.

Of the 55 eligible voters, only 29 (52.7%) cast their ballot; all of them in favour of Thompson with none for the other presidential nominee Ms. Shauna Kae Isaacs.

“Delegates from 6 of the 18 Clubs, totaling 18 persons, did not show at the poll and this contributed greatly to the low percentage,” noted Public Relations Officer Haile Mika’el who was nominated unopposed and gleaned 21 votes and sat as Director of the Election. In all, 28 persons from 8 Clubs plus the parish Association were nominated.

Three new members were elected to the nine-man committee that has been in place since the previous elections on October 18, 2012; namely Secretary Stacy-Ann Kangol of STRATHS who received 12 votes, Assistant Secretary Stacy-Ann Sinclair of Westlanders (10), and Assistant Treasurer Tashana Vaz of Savannah (14).

Those returned for a second straight term along with Thompson and Mika’el are 1st Vice President Diana Gopaulsingh, 2nd VP Nikhesia Pearce, 3rd VP Rhoando Parchment and Treasurer Shelly-Ann Earle. Gopaulsingh who was nominated for both 1st VP and 2nd VP actually won both sections but declined the latter thus allowing Pearce, who had the second highest number of votes among the six nominees, to regain her office.

“This definitely is the last time I will be standing in an election,” Thompson told the 11 members from five affiliates who had stayed to witness the counting. “I only decided to stand this time because there is still some amount of work that I can help to put through but I see competent persons in the WNA who can take it when I leave.”

Building the administrative capacity of the Clubs through training courses for Executive members; building an indoor netball court and Administrative Office for the WNA; training more umpires, especially juniors who will be able to officiate in Club and school league matches; and staging Primary, All Age and Junior High Schools’ competition are some of the targets set by Thompson.

“You all need to know that the Jamaica Netball Association no longer exists as it has become a Registered Company with the name Netball Foundation of Jamaica and will host its Annual General Meeting on Saturday (November 23, 2013),” she said.
