CHE are an established football team on campus. Towers are the new kids on the block and they had something to prove when the two teams met on Sunday, November 10th in the Sagicor/UWI Guild Champions League.

CHE took early control of the game and were rewarded for their efforts when Lenworth Pryce scored directly from a free kick in the 17th minute. The mass of CHE spectators celebrated wildly lighting up the night sky as they saluted the efforts of their ‘Lions’.

But Towers were not going to be outdone. They slowly clawed their way back into the game after getting over their early nerves.

Moran Singh showed he could match Pryce from a dead ball situation when he curled an effort out of the reach of the CHE keeper to make it 1-1 on minute 37.

Before the massive CHE support could even digest the fact that the upstarts had draw level, they were stunned when Omar Green wiggled past two defenders before slotting home to make it 2-1 to Towers just two minutes later.

The second half began evenly before CHE started taking control of the game. The pressure on Towers was intense resulting in CHE gaining a number of corners.

From one of these set plays CHE was awarded a penalty after Towers goal hero Omari Green, was red carded for deliberately punching the ball off the goal line.

Pryce showed that he was a man for the pressure situation when he confidently stepped up to send the keeper the wrong way, placing the ball to the left as the keeper dived to his right, drawing the scores level at 2-2 with the clock winding down.

The game had to be decided on penalties which CHE won 3-1 as three of the first four Towers kickers missed from the spot.

The CHE supporters celebrated as if they had won the competition showing just how much it meant to them.
