Jamaica College booked their place in the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup after they thrashed Excelsior High 4-0 at the National Stadium in the first encounter of a double header. Skipper Junior Flemmings continued his outstanding form with a brace and an assist as JC stormed their way into the Manning Cup final.

It was a game expected to be very close after Excelsior had defeated the boys from Hope Road 2-0 in the Walker Cup quarter finals earlier this season. However that defeat must have been a wake-up call for the ‘Big League Outfit’ as they have become a killing machine much to the same effect as that of Bayern Munich when they lost 2-0 at home to Arsenal in last season’s Champions League knock-out stages.

From the first whistle was blown the boys in Blue were on the front foot and took the lead from a free kick on three minutes. Flemmings struck the ball from about 25 yards out, getting the ball to bounce just in front of the goalkeeper and into the back of the net. Jamaica College doubled their lead on 28 minutes after some good exchange of passes and the ball fell to the feet of Flemmings. The National U17 captain had the presence of mind to make a brilliant chip pass to Raffique Bryan, who chested it down expertly and hit a left footed shot passed the goal keeper who should have done better to keep the shot out. JC went in the break 2-0 up and there was no sign of Excelsior coming back into the match.

The second half started off in the same breath with the 24 time champions on the front foot and extending the lead on 51 minutes. It was Flemmings again showing great anticipation from a long throw-in which was flicked on and the skipper applied the final touch to head past the Excelsior custodian. The Hope Road boys put the icing on the cake in the 70th minute when Sheldon McKoy got his name on the score sheet to seal an impressive win.

Jamaica College will face off against Wolmer’s Boys who dethroned defending champions St. Georges  College in a penalty shootout in the feature game of the day. It was the second penalty shootout loss for STGC in five days as they went out of the Walker Cup in the semifinals on Tuesday in the same manner.
