Madison Haley, Mallory Pugh and Taylor Otto netted braces, completing the Americans’ participation in a tournament that saw it finish unbeaten in five games (4-1-0), outscore the opposition 26-1, but not qualify for the World Cup.
Otto struck first in the second minute. Pugh received a short corner on the upper-right corner of the penalty area. Following a few dribbles, the 16-year-old delivered a low, hard cross for the defender to crash home from close range.
The U.S. doubled its lead just 10 minutes later. Anika Rodriguez unleashed a shot from the middle of the box that goalkeeper Shanay Ricketts could not corral, allowing Haley to knock it in at the right post.
Jamaica was reduced to 10 players in the 22nd minute, when Haley was tripped from behind in the box by Sashine Smith. Referee Sheena Dickson had no choice but to issue a red card, since an obvious goalscoring opportunity was denied.
After Haley was attended to on the field for an injury, Pugh converted the resulting penalty kick in the 25th minute.
Within eighty-two seconds, Pugh got her name on the scoresheet again. Kelcie Hedge was running towards goal on the right side of the box and dropped a brilliant backheel for the Real Colorado player to strike past Ricketts from eight-yards out for her fifth goal of the competition.
Five minutes before the break, Otto added her second to give the U.S. a 5-0 lead. Haley headed a right-sided corner from Tegan McCrady off the crossbar. Otto then leaped above Haley to head the ball over Ricketts, off the post, and into the net.
In the second half, the U.S. continued to make amends for falling short in the semifinal setback to Mexico.
Haley grabbed her second goal of the game in the 53rd minute. The instrumental Pugh rounded Ricketts on the right side of the box and passed on the ground to an unmarked Haley, who smacked it into an open net from six-yards.
The U.S. started to make substitutions, slowing the attack somewhat, but there were still two more goals to come.
Player of the Match Marley Canales increased the cushion to 7-0 with seven minutes left in regulation. She played a short corner to Civana Kuhlmann, who returned the favor. From the left side of the box, Canales’ attempt from 17-yards hit off the hands of Ricketts and inside the right post.
Kuhlmann, 14, punctuated the scoreline in the 90th minute, superbly first-timing an Elisabeth Jean pass just inside the right post.
It was the second time that the Americans captured third place in the tournament. Remarkably, it has competed in more CONCACAF Women’s Under-17 Championships (4) than it has conceded goals in all of them combined (3).
