Bridgeport looking to break Wolmers

Bridgeport High leads Zone J in the second round of the ISSA/LIME Manning Cup competition on goal difference and they will come face to face with Wolmers, the only unbeaten team left in this year’s corporate area football competition,  at 1:00pm at the Prison Oval.

Both teams won their first game of this round on Monday, Wolmers squeezing by Norman Manley High before Bridgeport outlasted Holy Trinity 4-2. A win today for either team would go a far way in securing a semifinal spot.

Wolmers coach Ludlow Bernard admitted that his team performed below expectations on Monday but was happy to get that one bad game out of the way.

“It was our poorest game all season, but it is best that it happened now,” he said.

Despite their winning record Bernard is still not content as he identified goal scoring as a major cause for concern.

“We have a very poor shot – goal ratio,” he lamented.

“If you look at the number of shots we take to the number of goals we score you will see the startling difference. Missing so many chances is affecting the team mentally, so the defenders know they have to keep it tight at the back. We just can’t afford to give anything away.”

Bridgeport will be hoping to find their goal scoring form again while hoping the gun shy Wolmers strikers fail in front of goal today. They will however, be very wary of one particular Wolmers player who has carried the team’s goal scoring responsibilty and that is Jaheel Hyde.

Hyde, the son of former national striker Lenworth ‘Teacher’ Hyde, has fifteen goals so far this season in all competitions and got the winner on Monday with just over two minutes on the clock, he is lightening quick, has a good dribble and a fierce shot. Bridgeport will do well to pay keen attention to him.

In the day’s other game, Norman Manley and Holy Trinity will face each other at 3:00pm at the same venue.
