Cuba easily got by Anguilla 6-0 as action continued on Sunday October 20th in Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Under- 20 Women’s Football Finals at the Waterhouse Mini-Stadium.

Cuba signaled their intent from as early as the third minute when Ollancy Gainza fired a header on target that was caught on the second attempt by Brianna White in the Anguillan goal.

Anguilla had their first attack in the eighth minute and Roxane Bradshaw  should have done better with her effort, firing high over the bar after some good work from Tamisha Richardson. That was as close as Anguilla would get in the first half.

Cuba got off the mark in the 12th minute when Eliane Acosta played in Yoanna Gonzanez inside the area. She controlled well before firing home her first of four goals for the game.

Two minutes later Gainza outpaced the Anguillan defense but her shot was just wide of the left upright. The Cubans were dominating the midfield with brilliant off the ball movement and insightful passing.

Cuba created a lot of chances but were guilty of wastefulness, especially Gainza but in the 37th minute Gonzanez doubled her tally and her team’s lead when she dribbled into the box unmolested before finishing between the keeper’s legs.

Gonzanez completed her hat-trick and the first half scoring on the stroke of half time when Anguilla were caught on the counterattack. Gonzanez calmly slotted to the far post as White remain stuck on the goal line.

The second half was a mirror of the same as Gainza for Cuba continued to miss easy chances. Anguilla captain, Coleen Johnson made an enterprising run only to be robbed on the edge of the area by a Cuban defender in the 57th minute. Richardson continued to work hard up front as the lone striker but had very little support from the midfield.

Cuba added to their lead in the 60th minute when Gonzanez  fired on target but the shot deflected wickedly off  Janicia Thomas-Carty and into the net for an own goal.

Yarileidy Noro got on the score sheet for Cuba when she rifled home a powerful shot from just outside the area after receiving the perfect pass from Gonzanez. The low grounder was too much for White in goal to deal with.

A minute later Gonazanez  got her fourth as she made it 6-0 to Cuba to complete the scoring in a totally one sided affair.

Cuba will square off with Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, in their final group game, to decide the group winners as they both have already qualified for the semifinals.
