BERMUDA OUTCLASS GRENADA TO TAKE THE LAST SEMI-FINAL SPOT AT CFU WOMEN’S UNDER-17 FINALS

Bermuda cruised into the semi-finals of the 2013 Caribbean Football Union Women’s Under 17 Tournament with a comprehensive victory over Grenada.

Bermuda cruised into the semi-finals of the 2013 Caribbean Football Union Women’s Under 17 Tournament with a comprehensive victory over Grenada.

The win at the Sylvio Cator Stadium in Haiti, also put an end to Grenada’s faint aspirations of reaching the semi-finals, as a positive result for the Spice Girls would have given them an outside chance at qualification.

Bermuda opted to rest star striker Aaliyah Nolan, who watched from the stands, and gave some of their reserves a chance to earn some valuable playing time.

After a scoreless first half, Dazhja Greaves broke the deadlock in the 60th minute when she ran down the right flank, wove her way into the penalty area and fired the ball into the net.

That goal inspired the “Gombey Girls” to stamp their authority on the game and moments later they went up 2-0, following the efforts of Zahra Gibbons.

The goal came about by virtue of a precise pass from Bermuda’s Captain Kali Lespere which found Gibbons, and she in turn easily hit past Grenadian goalkeeper Sparkle Joseph in the 64th minute.

The unbeaten Bermuda team will now face Haiti in Friday’s semi-final encounter.
