Harbour View stunned UWI WFC 3-1 on Saturday August 3rd as action continued in the Sherwin Williams Women’s Premier League.

Harbour View made home advantage pay as they were all over their guests from the opening whistle, pinning UWI back, as they found it difficult to get out of their half. With national U-20 representatives Khadija Shaw and Trudi Carter pulling the strings early on it took the hosts only five minutes to get on the score sheets when Shanise Foster outpaced the UWI defense to slot home from close range.

Shaw put her team 2-0 ahead in the 13th minute when an error in the UWI defense presented the easiest of chances. She gratefully accepted the opportunity as Harbour View took full control of the encounter.

Peta Gaye Soman made it 3-0 in the 24th minute as the home team threatened to run riot over the visitors.

UWI head coach Dwayne Richards was forced into making an early change to stop the bleeding , bring in Jodian Thomas for an out of sorts Carmen Christie. The effects of the change were immediate, as UWI were able to get some attacking impetus going. The half however ended 3-0 to Harbour View.

UWI came out on the front foot in the second half as they tried to get back in the game. The effective Thomas was able to pull a goal back for the visitors in the 53rd minute when she collected a pass from the hard working Sherona Forrester before slamming home from just inside the box.

The goal spurred on the UWI team as they went all out to get a second, but they suffered a major setback when they lost leading goal Vanessa Ramsay to injury.

Harbour View were not about to let the three points slip and played behind the ball for the rest of the game to secure a much deserved win. They are now level on 9 points with defending champions Barbican, who were idle on the day. Harbour View has completed their first round fixtures but Barbican has a game in hand.

UWI have failed to collect a point since their opening day win over Olympic Gardens and will have to show much better form if they are to remain in contention.

In the other Zone A game, Jessica Johnson’s 37th minute strike was enough to get Olympic Gardens their first points of the season when they beat home team St. Thomas 1-0.

Over in Zone B, Los Perfectos stunned GC Foster 1-0 when Rhonda Rhooms got the all important goal on the stroke of half time.

Arnett Gardens held home team Trelawny Women’s FC 1-1. Arnett led after Shadie Shirley put them 1-0 up in the 16th minute before Velesia Weir levelled for the hosts in the 53rd minute.

In the day’s other game, Waterhouse continued to show improvement, getting by Frazsiers Whip 3-1. Frazsiers Whip actually took the lead in the 3rd minute before Nicole Broderick levelled thing s for the home team. Tasheka Small gave Waterhouse the lead, two minutes before the break and Chavelle Henry made the game safe in the 88th minute.

Zone B is interestingly poised with GC Foster, Trelawny Women’s and Waterhouse all locked on seven points, Arnett Gardens on six and Los Perfectos on five with one set of matches to go before the end of round finals.
