PLCA blasts the JFF for axing of Whitmore

The Premier League Clubs Association (PLCA) has blasted the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) for what it calls an ‘impulsive decision’

and places the failure of the national football team so far in the World Cup qualification squarely at the feet of the JFF.

The PLCA feels that Theodore ‘Tappa’ Whitmore should be given the opportunity to finish out the campaign but that call is likely to fall on deaf ears as it is extremely unlikely that JFF President, Captain Horace Burrell, will reverse his now infamous ‘midnight decision’.

Below is the full release sent by the PLCA to the JFF outlining their grouses:

PLCA deeply concerned with the National Football Program

The PLCA notes the impulsive decision by the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) to call on National Senior Team Coach Theodore Whitmore to resign immediately. With four games to go in the World Cup Qualifiers, it is a wrong move to change horses in midstream. Let the present coach to finish the programme.

For at least three years, the PLCA has been calling for the JFF to set up a programme with a specialized coach to train strikers. Our call has been ignored. In the present round of qualifying matches the Reggae Boyz team has scored two goals in six matches. That speaks loudly to this short-sighted nature of the coaching programme. There is no strategy in effect to deal with plays in the goal area.

The predominant use of overseas players shows further short-sightedness.

The positioning of players with right foot skills to play left foot positions and vice versa limits playing ability. The search for players must match the capability of the players with positions and only persons with football skills should carry out the selection of players for teams.

It is time to recognize that for the JFF to produce a winning team it will need help. To this end The PLCA intends to call for an early meeting with the JFF.

Most Hon. Edward Seaga

Chairman, PLCA
