Rasheed Broadbell was the toast of Velocity Fest 9 as he ran a world leading 13.15s (-0.6m/s) in the Men’s 110m hurdles at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica on Saturday.

The former St. Jago High school standout decimated the field including his teammate and Commonwealth Games champion Ronald Levy to record a personal best and achieve the Olympic qualification standard at the same time. Levy was second in 13.43s.

Broadbell was first to hurdle number one and by hurdle number three was in full control of the race. Despite hitting a number of hurdles, including the last three, Broadbell won going away from the field which also included Orlando Bennett who was third in 13.50 and Deuce Carter of Legacy Athletic who was fourth in 14.11.

Broadbell’s performance was much improved over the race he ran in Florida just a week ago at the Inaugural Miramar Invitational.

Clearly elated with his new personal best, Broadbell was at a loss for words to describe how it felt in the moment.

“I really don’t have any words right now, it’s just a lot of things going through my mind. I think I executed (the race) properly this time. I wasn’t floating at the first three hurdles like the last race and I think I did well.”

The 110m hurdles bronze medalist at “Champs 2019” believes that more is left in the tank to lower his time even further, this season.

“Based on where I am at training, I think I can (go faster).”

Broadbell was only able to enjoy the world lead for a few hours as American Indoor World record holder Grant Holloway, lowered the world lead even further to 13.07s at the Tom Jones Memorial Invitational.
