World Indoor 60m Hurdles Broken by American Grant Holloway

History was made on Wednesday when American Grant Holloway, the 110m hurdles Outdoor World Champion broke the world indoor 60m hurdles record during the World Athletics Indoor Tour Madrid 2021. Holloway finished in 7.29 seconds, just 0.01 seconds faster than the 7.30 record previously held by Welsh sprinter Colin Jackson since 1994.

Holloway, whose initial time was recorded at 7.32, the same time as his personal best which was run in France earlier this month, was pleasantly surprised when he was informed by a photographer that it was corrected to 7.29 to break a record that has been standing for 27 years.

A picture of focus and concentration, Holloway was first to the first hurdle and moved away from the field with every stride to win by a clear three meters ahead of World Indoor Champion Andre Pozzi, who finished second in at 7.51 seconds.

It was a brilliant way for the 23 year old to end the indoor season. Holloway now holds four of the six fastest 60-meter hurdle performances in history, all of which are 7.35 or faster,

According to a statement given by World Athletics, Holloway’s performance helped to secure his overall victory in the World Athletics Indoor Tour.

Holloway’s indoor sprint hurdles winning streak has been extended to an amazing 54 races.
