The sports world was thrown into a tailspin when it was disclosed that Jamaican track and field legend Usain Bolt tested positive for Covid-19 on Monday.

Bolt revealed that he voluntarily did the test on Saturday, as part of preparations to leave Jamaica for work commitments.

However, there has been furor in some circles after videos surfaced of Bolt at his birthday party, the day before, where there was very little evidence of social distancing or party goers wearing masks.

On Monday, Bolt released a shot video on social media outlining the situation.

“Just waking up, like everybody else, check social media, saw that social media saying I’m confirmed to have Covid-19,” he said.

“I did a test on Saturday to leave, cause I have work, trying to be responsible, so I am going to stay in an stay away from my friends and also I am having no symptoms.”

Bolt also revealed that he had begun the process of self-quarantining and has warned his friends to do the same.

“I am going to quarantine myself and wait on the confirmation to see what is the protocol and how I should go about quarantining myself, from the Ministry of Health. So until then I am going to talk to all my friends and tell them that if you come in contact with me you should, just or be safe, quarantine by yourself and just to take it easy.”

It was confirmed late on Monday, that Bolt does have Covid-19.
