Fraser-Pryce and Thompson-Herah continue impressive form at Velocity Fest Series

Reigning Olympic champion Elaine Thompson-Herah and former Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce continued their fine form as the Velocity Fest Track and Field Series continued at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica on the weekend.

The event which began at the Stadium at Jamaica College was switched to the National Stadium on the weekend where members of the media and a limited number of fans were allowed in for the first time.

The series has marked the return of track and field to the island where a number of the leading athletes have been able to get in some much needed competitive action over the past few weeks.

Thompson-Herah took a while to get rid of the ring rust caused by the Covid-19 lockdown while, Fraser-Pryce seemingly hit the ground running and has put in some impressive times as the meets have unfolded.

On Saturday, Fraser-Pryce shaded her pet event, the 100m, while Thompson-Herah, when given the chance to stretch her long legs was dominant over the 200m.

Running in timed finals, Fraser -Pryce clocked a world leading 10.87s (+1.4m/s) to win her section and overall, just ahead of Thompson-Herah who ran 10.88 (+0.3m/s).

Then on Sunday, Thompson-Herah ran a pretty even race for a season’s best 22.19s (+0.1m/s) in the 200m, way ahead of the time run by Fraser-Pryce, who stopped the clock at 22.58s (+0.9m/s).

Track and field enthusiasts will be pleased to see both women returning to form and fitness, even with the Olympic Games still a year away.
