The 8th staging of the Lasco iDrade Anthrick Prep School Development Meet will take place today at the UWI/Usain Bolt track starting at 8:30am. The meet will feature over 40 schools, while Flying Angels Track Club will make their second appearance at the event.

With a number of the usual development meets cancelled this year, this meet will prove vital to the coaches who have been preparing their athletes for the annual JISA Prep Schools Track and Field Championships which is set for May 31-June 2, 2018.

This year there will be a new section for clubs which is being facilitated based on the number of entries specific to that particular category.

A new event has been added to the line-up and that is the 60m hurdles for Class 1 athletes. Since this will be a new event at the JISA Prep Champs later this month, the organizers saw it fit to add the event to give athletes a chance to test themselves.

Ricky Martin, the head of the organizing committee of the event is expecting this staging to be the biggest ever.

“Because there are only three meets this year we are expecting great competition. We have close to 50 teams registered and the number of club entries is so great that we have been able to create a category for them. I think this especially, speaks to what will happen today.”

Martin was happy that his title sponsor has returned for a second year.

“I want to thank Lasco for coming onboard for a second year in a row. It is very challenging to secure sponsorship these days so to have them return shows that they are committed to youth development in sport.”

The cash and kind sponsorship includes Lasco iDrade, iCool juice drink and ICool water to ensure the athletes are properly hydrated.
