Vaz Prep leads after day one of JISA/TASTEE Prep Champs

Former champions Vaz Prep school took the early lead at the 40th staging of the Jamaica Independent Schools Association (JISA)/TASTEE Prep Schools Athletics Championships after striking gold in the two events scored on day one of the championships inside the National Stadium on Thursday.

Vaz leads with 23 points, followed by defending champions Hydel who are ten points behind on 13. Stella Maris are third on 11 points, Mona fourth on 8, St. Peter and Paul fifth on 7,Belair sixth on 6,Quest seventh of 5 and Belair, the only other school to score so far are 8th on one point.

Edward Sterling won the Class 2 Boys High Jump on count back after clearing a height of 1.43m while Marquis Steele of Stellla Maris was second, also with a height of 1.43m. Timos Blake of Belair Prep finished third with 1.30m.

In the Class One Boys equivalent Jaydon Hibbert also won on count back after he and Meshach Waugh of champions Hydel both cleared 1.53m. Waugh’s teammate Zico Bennett finished third with a height of 1.50m.

Day two action is expected to get underway at 8:30am with the Class One Boys 400m semifinals while the Boys 4x200m Open heats, will close day two of the three day championships.
