KC, CALABAR BREAK EVEN IN 100M FINALS

The Boys 100m sprint finals was amongst the top events that thousands of fans turned out to witness at the 107th staging of the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boys and Girls Athletics Championships. Despite no records being set, it was an evening of good sprinting by all on show.

The Boys Class Three finals was the first on track and it was all jubilation for the myriad of Kingston College supporters watching as Terrique Stennett dismantled the field to win in 10.90 seconds (-0.4m/s). Teammate Adrian Kerr 11.02 seconds finished in second ahead of a fast finishing Vashaun Vascianna St. Jago High 11.22 seconds.

St Elizabeth Techincal’s Sachin Dennis made light work of the Class 2 Boys 100m finals crossing the line in fast 10.51 seconds (-0.7 m/s), ahead of rivals Michali Everett of Jamaica College in 10.69 and the highly talked about Wolmerian Xavier Nairne third in10.74 seconds.

A lot of fans waited with keen anticipation to see if Kingston College’s Jevaungh Mattherson would have taken to the track after reports came that he suffered a right hamstring cramp.

The 2016 bronze medalist showed up, but it was a short lived stay, as he false started leaving the door open for Calabar to strike back at the purples.

The 2016 Class Two champion Michael Stephens made no mistake as he won the final in a decent 10.41 seconds (-0.7m/s). He finished ahead of his teammate Tyreke Wilson 10.52 seconds with a surprised Washington Brown of Cornwall College running into third in a time of 10.58 seconds.

All attention are now shifted to the 200m finals where more mouthwatering clashes are on the card, as the curtains come down on Saturday April 1st, the final day of competition.
