An unparalleled display of fluid rhythm and precision, by Vere Technical’s Brittany Anderson shattered the Class Two girls 100m hurdles, clocking 13.04 seconds to highlight the morning session of day 4 at the ISSA/Grace Kennedy Boy’s and Girl’s Athletics Championships at the National Stadium.

Running before a decent sized crowd, Anderson shaved 0.26 seconds from the previous champs record of 13.30 set on the second day of competition. The previous mark came via a smooth run by Holmwood Technical’s Shanette Allison, after Anderson had established a new record of 13.37 seconds in her heat.

Fast from the blocks, Anderson had already pieced together a sizable lead by hurdle three, extended over the next four and glided to the line in the new mark.

The former record holder Allison, made amends to what was a messy start to secure third spot in the first semifinal in 13.69 seconds. The event was one by defending champion Manchester High’s Dazray Freeman in 13.37 seconds ahead of St Jago’s Rosalee Cooper in 13.50 seconds.

St Jago’s Crystal Morrison was in immaculate form on her way to a new Class Three girls 80m hurdles record. The diminutive figure from Monk Street became the first Class 3 athlete to dip below 11 seconds, clocking 10.98 seconds to win the first heat of the girls semifinals on Friday morning.

She is joined by Holmwood technical’s Dyandra Gray (11.35), Excelsior’s Ackera Nugent ( 11.20) and Velecia Williams ( 11.25) of Hydel High as fastest qualifiers into the final.

The Class One Girls semifinals was a repeat of what obtained on Wednesday, where Wolmerian Janeek Brown sped to 13.53 seconds, winning her heat in a champs record. But before she could catch her breath, Edwin Allen’s Gabrielle McDonald came storming back to secure the third semifinals in a new record of 13.52 seconds. The previous mark was set at 13.56 seconds by Peta Gaye Williams in 2015. Vere Technical’s Amoi Brown, 13.58 sec and Holmwood Technical’s Nicolee Foster 13.63 seconds are also through to the final.

St Jago proved strong once again with Danae Nembhard clocking 10.54 sec to top the qualifiers into Saturday’s final. She will be hard pressed by Shanoya Pottinger of Hydel High (10.79) and Chrystal Shaw of The Queens School who qualified with 10.71 sec.

The finals are slated for Saturday at 3:05pm with the Class 3 Girls 80m race.
